Being a Parent at Grove Park Playgroup
Parents are the first and most important educators of their children. All of the staff see themselves as co-workers with you in providing care and education for your child. As a parent-led playgroup it is very important that we have your input to make the Playgroup a welcoming and stimulating place that meets the needs of our children and parents.
For you to get the most from the playgroup:
- Familiarise yourself with our policies and procedures
- Exchange knowledge about your children’s needs, activities, interests and progress with the staff
- Be involved with the running and management of the playgroup by attending committee meetings or giving your ideas and suggestions to staff or the committee
- Take part in events
You will find that the friendships both you and your child make at Playgroup will be lasting ones.

Half Term: 12th – 16th February 2018
16th April – 20th July 2018
Half Term: 28th May – 1st June 2018
Trips: We require a 2:1 child to adult ratio so rely on parent helpers to make these trips possible.
Parent Rota & Emergency Helpers: Once the children have all settled in after the beginning of term, we invite parents to join our Parents Rota. This is your opportunity to come in once a term (more often if you would like to) to help out. Parents who have done this have told us that they really enjoyed being part of the action at Playgroup, and seeing how their child interacted with their friends. We thoroughly recommend parents to put their name down.
And, if you enjoy working with children, you may be interested in becoming one of our emergency helpers. We avoid using agency staff and prefer to use people known to playgroup that we have CRB checked; parents or carers are both very welcome to apply. You will (naturally) be paid for your time!
Visitors to the Playgroup: We are always keen to get visitors to playgroup such as the police and fire fighters, but we also welcome parents and carers with specific skills. Actors, musicians, gardeners and artists are just some of those parents who have dropped by ‘wearing their other hats’. We also love parents and carers to come in and read a story with the children.
Playgroup Chairperson: The chairperson is a current or recent parent and typically holds the post for 2 or 3 years. Here are some comments from a recent chairperson:
“I loved popping into playgroup on a regular basis and seeing my child busy and happy. Working with the staff has been a pleasure, we are fortunate that previous committees have employed very dedicated staff and we have a low turnover. The treasurer and secretary are both great to work with and are truly committed to making the playgroup the best it can be. They have been working for the playgroup for several years and have invaluable experience to support the chairperson.”
